Well folks it looks like our last clean yielded another 600 pounds of trash from the ol Shenandoah. That puts us over the 50,000 pounds mark. We are looking to get back on the river very soon. We’ve got the Murrays Fly Shop Anniversary this weekend on Saturday but perhaps we can pull something out for Sunday. Hope for good weather. The water level is also up right now which makes hard cleaning, but makes for good floating so get yourself out there and get on the water. Don’t forget to get tickets to Murrays Fly Shop Anniversary. How do you get tickets you ask? Simply show up at Murrays Fly Shop in Edinburg Saturday and buy one. $15 bucks gets you access to Sals food, the Shakedown Band and Complementary drinks. Come on out  and enjoy. We’ll also be doing some 50/50 raffles of E.K. Swag. See you there!

Hey folks,

Sorry for the long pause. E.K. has been super busy planning your next big music festival for you. We can’t wait to see you out there with us in Berryville. Tickets will go on sale later today and I will re-blog with the link. Remember we only have 499 early bird discounted spots available and trust me they are going to go fast so make sure you get them while you can. We’ll talk to you soon!!

Folks,

I’ve got some great news. The 2012 Riverside Festival is underway and we are expecting quite a turnout. We have been working very hard with the people at Watermelon Park to ensure that this year is something else. We have also decided to open up the fundraiser and let any non-profit that is representing the environment be welcome to set up a booth at the festival to preach on their cause. We want the riverside festival to be huge and why not get  as much educational material out there as possible. So if you are involved with an environmental nonprofit or know someone who is please e-mail your interest to earthkorps@yahoo.com and we’ll get you set up. Also I suppose I should release a few of our bands to you. We have so far the legendary….

Rhonda Vincent

Drifitn’ Westward

Acoustic Burgoo

Allen Thompson Band

Jake and The Burtones

The Shakedown

Steal the Prize

That should be enough of a teaser for right now. The pictures are linked to the bands websites. Check em out and get ready because tickets go on sale March 1st. Tell all your friends, tell all your non-profits

Hey folks,

I figured as we get further into this festival planning thing I’d go ahead and let you listen to the submissions I’m getting and decide who you really want to hear this year. I’ve gotten quite a few already and I’ll post a new one every few days. Without further adue here is the Luke Johnson Band. If you love their music then drop us an opinion on facebook about it.

P.S. We have just gotten word of an incredible grant opportunity that the winner gets voted on by the public so get ready to do your part for the river. All I need is a vote from each and every one of you.

2012 S.R.F Headliner Survey

Hey folks,

I’m starting to look at a possible headliner for this years festival. This is your chance to cast your vote for who you want to hear. I’m not talking about bringing back the kiss tour or anything crazy like that but I’ve been looking at a couple of up and coming bands like Joe Pug, Trampled By Turtles, Punch Brothers, The Hackinsaws Ect. Here’s your chance to let me know if there is anyone out there that masses of people want to hear and I will do my best to see if I can make something happen. We’ve got some good changes coming to you this year and I think this year is going to be one for the record books. Feel free to post your responses on facebook.

Well folks,

I finally caught up with the good people at Magazine 33 and they sent me a copy of their issue featuring The Shenandoah Riverside Festival this past year. It is an awesome article and they got some really awesome pictures. Check it out and tell us what you think! Tell everyone you know!

Hey everyone,

Just had this awesome opportunity fly by our desk here at e.k. headquarters. Apparently Nov 9th there is a huge competition for non-profits in our local area and the D.C. area in which foks are asked to donate to their favorite non-profit, even if it’s only a dollar. The goal is to get as many people as we can behind any particular project ( THE SHENANDOAH RIVER CLEAN-UP PROJECT) and the non-profitwith the most going on will win 150,000 dollars towards their project. I don’t know if you all know what this means, but we can get a lot and I mean a lot of trash out the the Shenandoah with that kind of funding. So please, if you have been waiting for that special time to show your support, make it now and I’ll show you all what kind of a huge difference we can really make in this valley.

Here is a link for more details on the competition. By all means check it out.

Hey folks,

Well I finally did it. I accidentally double scheduled myself to be in two places at once. We have a clean-up with Friends of the North Fork on Sat the 15th and low and behold I also signed us up to be at Family Fun Day at the Shenandoah County Fairgrounds at the same time. This normally would not be a problem to accomplish, but the other part of our organization is going to be out of town. That leaves us with the dilemma. So I am asking our generous public if anyone would like to volunteer to hang out with a bunch of smiling faces of children for Earth Korps for one afternoon at the family fun day and let kids play games at our stand and shoot the breeze with the adults about what E.K. does. If interested please e-mail earthkorps@yahoo.com ASAP.

Thanks alot, -Captain

Hey everybody,

This is your captain speaking. I am pleased to let you know that we have had a game changing  thing happened to us. A few months ago I had applied for a 25,000.00 grant through Merck and low and behold we got the thing. So that being said we all should jump up and down a few times and give a hearty thank you to the good people at Merck for helping us to clean our beautiful river up. Thanks guys and gals, and thank you to all who support the Shenandoah River Clean-up Project.

On another note we got to do a clean with friends ( of the North Fork) this Saturday and although we showed up a little later than the crack of dawners and cannot hardly take credit for what was accomplished there we did help out as much as we could and also thought we would share some pretty cool pictures taken while on the clean. Good job everyone and keep up the good work.

Hello Folks,

Just wanted to let everyone out there in T.V. land know that the riverside festival was a great success. We ended up raising about another $9,000 for the Shenandoah River clean-up. A good bit of that was over head for the event but what can you do. We were also able to recycle about 25 bags of trash from the festival this year thanks to our new handy dandy recycling bins. Thanks Shenandoah County Fairgrounds for those. Now it’s about high time to get back to work on the old Shenandoah bringing you more tales of trash removed and great pictures for you to see. They will be coming soon. Remember folks we take sponsorships year round so if someone you know has a company or organization that they would like to have shown as a face of the Shenandoah River clean-up project don’t be shy. Let em know that we’re here to help. As always this is your
