Community Convos.

Hey folks,

Be looking for our county convos video to be coming out here soon with Katie Mercer. We did the shoot this morning. Although I’m sure all of our readers are aware of what we do. The video just reiterates our mission of success and would be a great thing for you to forward to someone who has no idea of the cause yet in order to gain their support as well. Also in other news. The Friends of The North Fork and us are partnering for on a project we like to call monofilament recycling. We will be building recycling stations and putting them at most of your familiar boat landings and fishing spots for you to put your old unwanted fishing line.

Speaking of Friends of The North Fork, they have a river clean on Nov 5th that I hope to see some of our readers attend. The last one was a great success and Earth Korps will be joining them again to make it another huge success. Interested? Meet at the Friends office in Woodstock at 8:00 am on the 5th and bring gloves, water, pants, and a smile. We’ll see you there

Hey Folks,

Sorry, been very busy over here in Earth Korps land and the Captain is also getting ready to kick off his legendary Belgravia Haunted Mansion this Friday the 21st. As you may remember we partnered with Friends of the North Fork for their annual Fall clean and boy did they have a lot of volunteers show up so we have some great pics for you. As always we hope you enjoy our work, keep passing the word on and make sure you come by for Belgravia Haunted Mansion.

Hey folks,

Well I finally did it. I accidentally double scheduled myself to be in two places at once. We have a clean-up with Friends of the North Fork on Sat the 15th and low and behold I also signed us up to be at Family Fun Day at the Shenandoah County Fairgrounds at the same time. This normally would not be a problem to accomplish, but the other part of our organization is going to be out of town. That leaves us with the dilemma. So I am asking our generous public if anyone would like to volunteer to hang out with a bunch of smiling faces of children for Earth Korps for one afternoon at the family fun day and let kids play games at our stand and shoot the breeze with the adults about what E.K. does. If interested please e-mail earthkorps@yahoo.com ASAP.

Thanks alot, -Captain

Hey folks,

I finally got a chance to get these weights for you from our clean the other day. It looks like the final take was 320 pounds of recyclables plus about 150 pounds of metal bringing our total to 470 pounds of trash INcluding 7 tires and a peck deck machine! Not bad for the short amount of time it took to find that stuff.  Persay it took us an hour to find that and lets just round up to 500 pounds for math’s sake. of 10 people did what we just did once a week that would be 5,000 pounds of trash from the river a week, 20,000 pounds of trash a month, that would be 240,000 pounds of trash from the Shenandoah River a year. If only 10 people committed themselves to doing this and helping out. WOW! The numbers are incredible. Well, until next time keep on reading and supporting your local non-profit.

Hey Folks,

I just received a rather large package in the mail yesterday from the department of conservation and recreation. Inclosed were certificates of appreciation for stewardship to Virginia signed by Governor McDonnell for me to hand out to anyone who has helped out on river cleans  with Earth Korps. So that being said, If you have  in fact helped Earth Korps out in any way just send an e-mail to earthkorps@yahoo.com reminding me on your contribution and I will have one of these sent your way as soon as possible! Frame it, put it up on your office. It’s a great accomplishment and should be brandished  proudly.

Thanks everyone for all the support we receive, keep reading the blogs and keep showing up to clean the river and we might just have a chance at restoring our watershed back to her natural beauty.

Hey Folks,

I finally got around to getting a new camera cable so I could share with you the pictures from our clean last week. We found some pretty interesting things this time. How about a bow flex? Anyone ever seen one of those in the river. Heck of a disposal spot for one. Well it’s actually just a peck deck but I figured not everyone in the world knows what that is. Also the Friends of the North Fork have a river clean on September 15th. We have also registered with Clean Va Waterways in order to make this one of the largest clean-ups yet. Lets get lots of hands out there to really give Friends of the North Fork a great clean.

You can register for the clean at http://signuptocleanup.org/index.php?section=cleanup&action=main&fwID=10306 or just go onto the Friends of the North Forks website and I’m sure they’ll have directions. We have two different meeting places, one being the Friends office in Woodstock and the other being Redbanks Bridge close to our office in Edinburg. Pick either you like and then well head to the common clean site. If you know of an area of the river that needs particular attention right away please contact us and let us know. We will be glad to turn the river clean in that direction. Thanks everyone for the support and as always, enjoy our photos.
