400 more from the river!

Well folks our little canoe trip weighed in at another 400 pounds. I haven’t done the math yet but that very well may have put us over the 50,000 pound mark. If not, we’re darn close. Keep posted for more Shenandoah River clean-up news. Don’t forget to buy your tickets to the Shenandoah Riverside Festival.  Come on out and see Rhonda Vincent and Iron Horse with us. The final line-up and band schedule is posted on the home page as well.

We will be doing another river clean sometime this weekend. If my memory serves me correct I believe that Friends of the North Fork are doing doing one of their annual clean-ups this weekend so lets get lots of folks out to give them a hand. More details to be posted soon. I believe this will be a Saturday clean.

Almost at 50,000 Pounds.

Folks this will be our 3rd summer cleaning the river. It has been long hard road to walk and the trash removal process is not easy. We are about 500 pounds away from reaching a serious milestone for Earth Korps and we have a small load on the back of the truck to take still. I would like to thank those of you who have helped out so far, either by lifting a hand to help us or by sponsoring or donating time or advice or services in some other way. It means a lot to say that we have come this far and it wouldn’t be possible without the support of so many.

We are going to continue to push forward and try to reach 100,000 pounds of trash pulled from the doah. Please help us continue to grow this effort by sharing our page with your friends on Facebook and by coming out to celebrate what has been accomplished so far at the 2012 Shenandoah Riverside Festival.

4/20/12 River Clean

Hey folks,

We heard through the grapevine that it was going to rain this weekend so we went out and did a little clean today. Nothing fancy, just 2 canoes, but with those 2 boats we got amazing pictures and ideas for access points for future cleans and also removed 5 tires, a dryer, a big tarp, a tail light, a Red Seal snuff sign and a bunch of other stuff. As always please enjoy our pictures and keep posted on upcoming cleans and events for you to join.

River Trash Pics 4/15/2012

Hey everybody,

Hope everyones weekend was spectacular, ours sure was. We got another 600 pounds of trash out of the river including  13 tires, a big metal seat out of a skid loader, and about 15 bags of random river trash. We had quite a few volunteers show up this weekend. Thanks to everyone who showed up. Also like to give a big thank you to the Downstream Project who is currently sponsoring us in doing a short film about trash removal in the Shenandoah. We’re hoping to put together some epic cleans for them to film. Folks we will be cleaning the river every Sunday from  here on out at 10:00 A.M. so make sure to check us out on Facebook for the location which we are trying to get a little further out for you than a week but we are busy busy right now. As always enjoy our pics.

Hey all,

Make sure you come join us for this weeks river clean. We are going to meet at Redbanks Bridge in Edinburg. There are two spots right in that area that need a lot of attention so come on out at  join us for a little fun in the sun. See you there.

Hey folks,

Great news! We just recieved a grant from Shenandoah Community Foundation for $2,500.00 so if you see anyone affiliated with them on the street make sure to tell them thanks for helping to do their part to clean the Shenandoah River. Keep up the good work everyone. Word is getting around about teh things we’re doing.

Hey folks brilliant idea. I though being that we have readers from all over I’m gonna just post this flyer here for you again and if you would like to help out in the Shenandoah River Clean-up saga just print this bad boy off and drop by a few of your favorite hangout spots. We’d appreciate all the help we can get. Also don’t forget to “share” the Festival page on Facebook to all of your friends. Thanks

Hey folks,

Just got back tallying everything up. Looks like our first clean yielded 700 pounds. Not too bad. This includes 10 tires, 10 bags of recyclables, a canoe seat and a propane tank. Make sure you make it out to the next one to experience the fun on the river. If you like what we’re doing make sure to buy your riverfest ticket so we can keep up this work. Thanks to all who support the cause.

Hey folks,

Well we finally got ourselves some good weather and had a chance to get out there on the river and do something. It was only a few of us but we got a whole lot done. We will plan another clean very soon so stay posted and remember to continue to support your local non-profit and spread the word about the things that are happening. We will have the weights in the next few days. Stay Tuned! As always enjoy our pictures. Also early bird tickets are running out for the Shenandoah Riverside Festival. Get your tickets and help Earth Korps help you by continuing our work on the water.
