Last Call for Sponsors

Hey Folks,

Thought I would give a quick shout out. We are only 3 weeks away from the 3rd annual Shenandoah Riverside Festival. It seems hard to believe that this much time has passed but it’s finally here. We are still accepting sponsorship opportunities, but we will need them to all be submitted and have your logos in place in the next week. If your company or organization would like to be featured as one of our sponsors please send an e-mail to Here is the link to the current sponsor page for the 2012 riverfest. Your company will also be featured on and also get a special shout out on here. We look forward to hearing from you!

Clean-up 5/25/12

Hey folks,

We joined the friends of the north fork on Friday with a group of volunteer from Rugby Square Apts. and New Market North Apts. for a clean on the North fork. The grass gets so over grown this time of year that it’s hard to find ways in and out of the river but we managed to find a good spot and even did a little bit of highway pick-up as well. We will be going back out friday and are going to do a float and clean. Anyone interested in joining please e-mail and we’ll let you know how to get there and what time.  Enjoy our pics

Hey Folks,

We went to the official grant ceremony for the $2,500 we recieved from the Shenandoah Community Foundation last night. It was a great time right on main street in Mt. Jackson at some awesome place full of crazy art work that’s name is escaping my memory at the moment. The evening featured some great finger food and a nice speech honoring the folks who recieved grants. I would say the honor is all ours and we look forward to working with the Shenandoah Community Foundation again. Thanks guys and gals.

Also tomorrow the 24th is THE LAST DAY TO GET PRE_SALE TICKETS FOR THE RIVERSIDE FESTIVAL. You have been warned. Absolutely no exceptions will be made so get them right ow while they’re cheap. We hope to see all of you there. Here is the link to buy tickets

Alright folks,

Thought I would send out one last cal out for those of you who may not have gotten your tickets yet or are unsure about what your plans are today. The Fly Shop’s 50th Bash is at 4:00 today right in the middle of Edinburg. The admittance fee is only $15 and that includes free dinner from Sals Italian Bistro, Live music by the Shakedown Bans, Complementary Drinks and a whole lot of other fun things. Once again, all the proceeds from this great event go towards Earth Korps for their continued support of cleaning the river. They have gotten awesome shirts printed up for the event that will be for sale on site. This is sure to be a great time so come on down and have some fun with us!

Well folks it looks like our last clean yielded another 600 pounds of trash from the ol Shenandoah. That puts us over the 50,000 pounds mark. We are looking to get back on the river very soon. We’ve got the Murrays Fly Shop Anniversary this weekend on Saturday but perhaps we can pull something out for Sunday. Hope for good weather. The water level is also up right now which makes hard cleaning, but makes for good floating so get yourself out there and get on the water. Don’t forget to get tickets to Murrays Fly Shop Anniversary. How do you get tickets you ask? Simply show up at Murrays Fly Shop in Edinburg Saturday and buy one. $15 bucks gets you access to Sals food, the Shakedown Band and Complementary drinks. Come on out  and enjoy. We’ll also be doing some 50/50 raffles of E.K. Swag. See you there!

5/11/2012 River Clean

Hey folks,

We found a great spot on the river and by great it’s not the traditional great because it’s flu of litter but it’s great for us because we’ll be able to have lots of volunteers out and show you lots of great pictures. We did a fun clean today though and found some huge tires and a bunch of pieces of sharp metal that would be sure to cut someones leg off had they gotten caught on them. So you’re welcome future lieutenant Dans. As always please enjoy our pictures and stay posted I’ve got some info for a great event next weekend for you all. Mark your calendars for May 19th because we will be celebrating Murray’s Fly Shops 50th anniversary with great food from Sals italtian bistro and great music from the Shakedown Band.

Shenandoah Riverside Festival – June 15 and 16 in Berryville, Virginia

b_300_388_16777215_0___images_0_Images_SarahSilvas_Shenandoan_Festival_Pic.jpgThe Shenandoah Riverside Festival will be back for the third year in a row this June 15 and 16 at Watermelon Park in Berryville, VA. The beautiful, tree-lined grounds of Watermelon Park visually wow you while the temperate weather and cool waters keep you comfortable all weekend long.

Free camping is the way to go at this festival – both tents and RVs are allowed although an additional $15.00 is required for RV electric and water fees. Pre-sale tickets are available for $40.00 and will be $55.00 at the door. With kids under 13 entering for free, this festival is certainly one of the most affordable (and family-friendly) of the summer.

What’s even better is that the proceeds from this annual event benefit Earth Korps and cleaning up the Shenandoah River. Funds from the last two events totaled over $15,000, making it possible for Earth Korps to extract over 47,000 pounds of trash from the river. The environmentally friendly initiatives don’t stop there – all weekend there will be environmental education workshops along with arts and crafts to keep you busy and fill your brain with knowledge.

Talented musicians will fill the air with lovely melodies for a half-day on Friday, then a full-day on Saturday. This year’s performers include Iron Horse on Friday, the “Queen of Bluegrass” Rhonda Vincent, and Holy Ghost Tent Revival on Saturday, among many others. Check out the full lineup and schedule below.

One activity not to pass on is a leisurely float down the river. Watermelon Park is offering 20 percent off all tube rentals to festival ticket holders. Head over to their website to make your arrangements today.

Make sure to check out Headstash’s 2012 Festival Guide for all your summer festy info.

April News

Hey you,

Yeah you. The one there sitting on your couch on a beautiful day in your boxers wanting more out of life. Well guess what. I’ve got a plan and an opportunity for you. Did you realize that the Shenandoah River which may or may not be in your back yard has been listed on the nations most polluted rivers list. That’s just chemical pollution, but have you actually ever been on a float and seen the masses of metal, tires, and just garbage that plague the banks of this once pristine waterway. Did you know that there is an organization our there committed to helping you clean-up your back yard waterway free of charge. That’s right guys and gals there’s a new company in town called Earth Korps and they are here to try to put a stop to this problem. Before you can solve an issue though you must first go back and repair the damage that has already been done. WE NEED YOUR HELP! This is not a plea agreement, this is 2012 and it’s time we all start taking care of the place that we call our home. We’re getting close, but not quite to the point where we can pack up and move to the moon once we entirely ruin Earth. Plus you can’t even breath up there so why not do your part to sustain this already beautiful landscape instead of abusing it. If you haven’t done anything lately to make Earth a better place then e-mail and say that you want to come volunteer. If you can’t volunteer but want to contribute e-mail us and send your support in the form of a check and we will be volunteers for you. We’re running out of resources folks and it’s not one of those things that you can just let pass you by and assume someone else is going to take care of it. That’s how we got in the mess we’re in globally in teh first place. Take a stand and make the human race shine as the innovators of this planet. Start by picking up your trash!

This is what we’re doing in the month of April. Motivation, Planning and Executing. If you haven’t done something to help your watershed yet then do something. volunteer, provide access points, provide knowledge, donate, buy a ticket to riverfest, tell someone about Earth Korps. You wouldn’t belive the number of people who have no idea that there is even a company our there that cleans the river. All easy things that all help the river. Look for much more from your local river clean-up company coming soon. We are knee deep in planning right now and the rain keep messing up our clean-up days but not to worry there will be plenty of trash to be removed and plenty of trash removed sooner than you know.
