Adopt a Highway Clean 8/31/12

Hey folks,

We decided to do a road clean today for our adopted section of the road Belgravia instead of the river clean. We are looking to do the river clean planned sometime this weekend, but it seemed like a good day to just spend some time outside fulfilling our prior commitments. I took to the road with a bunch of trash bags, a four wheeler, a stick with a nail in it and some water and ended up with two bags full of trash (mainly beer cans) and two tires. I got some great pictures and also found a dump site that probably has 20 bags worth of trash waiting to be picked up, but it looked oddly like a rattlesnake den so I figured I would wait until I had someone around me to drive me to the hospital if need be. Until next time, enjoy our pictures and stay tuned.

Hey folks,

I thought I would let you know about the latest awesome group that has decided to back Earth Korps and the mission to clean up the Shenandoah. Joe’s Steak House is new up on the menu as a sponsor and we look forward to doing a lot of great business with them in the future. Also, don’t forget to come to Belgravia Beer and Wine Festival on October 6th and sample some of Joe’s great food. Thanks a lot Joe and the Joe’s Steak House family.

Stay tuned for more news from Earth Korps, We’ve got some river cleaning and a bunch of other great stuff coming your way soon. P.S. if you are wondering why the slack of river cleans here lately we have two answers for you. One- we have been very busy planning other projects that are going to greatly impact the river’s future and two, it is snake hatching season so we figured we’d give the little guys a chance to hatch and get away from their nests before we go prodding around gathering trash. Nothing worst than an angry snake.

Hey folks,

We finally got the second part of our mono-bin project completed. What are mono bins you say? Well, they are handy tubes placed at highly fished areas for fisherman to put their old fishing line into instead of throwing it into the river to entangle wildlife or other passers by. We have so far got 3 of these things instaled on the North Fork of the Shenandoah River and they are at Meems Bottom, Chapman Landing, and Catlett Landing. We hope to continue to build and place these things al along the Shenandoah at all of the public and not so public fishing spots. We would like to give a big thank you to DGIF,  and Friends Of the North Fork for coming together on this project to make it a success, and also a big thank you to Mr. Jack Chapman for being willing to monitor these things all year long.
